Rechelbacher opened his first salon, Horst & Friends in Minneapolis in 1965. He went on to found Aveda in 1978, taking the name from the Ayeurvedic principles he had learned during his time in India. By 1997, Rechelbacher was able to sell the expanding business on to Estée Lauder for around $300M (US). Once a local favourite for small town residents in rural Minnesota, Aveda has become an international success story, with outlets in over 130 countries around the globe. Aveda products are now among the first trend setters and ecologically-minded women think of when considering hair and beauty product purchases.
Hair care
Aveda’s range of products seems to expand all the time. Their hair care line includes everything from simple clove shampoo through to innovative hair colourants that are 99% natural.
