Guerlain fragrances are concocted from a unique mix of six natural ingredients: bergamot, rose, jasmine, tonka bean, iris and vanilla. These are then embellished with a variety of fine oils and extracts to create the signature fragrances that Guerlain is famous for the world over. Today, the master perfumer at Guerlain is Jean-Pierre Guerlain, he’s a direct descendant of the company’s founder and is approaching retirement and the House of Guerlain was acquired by luxury goods giant LVMH in the mid 1990s. The Guerlain name, however, has made its own impression on the wider beauty world beyond the fragrance niche.
In addition to the 700-odd perfumes that have launched from the Guerlain stable, customers can now visit the Guerlain headquarters to have a scent hand-crafted just for them. Like a piece of haute coture, the perfume is a culmination of client and designer meeting several times, making adjustments and eventually the client receives their bespoke fragrance, set in a traditional Guerlain-style Baccarat crystal bottle. What’s more, today’s Guerlain products include all the standard beauty products you’d find in someone’s makeup regime.
Guerlain’s skin care regime includes cleansers, moisturisers and anti-ageing products. Some of the most popular ‘ordinary’ beauty products by Guerlain include: Flower Cleansing Crème, a nourishing formula to remove makeup, enriched with extracts from five flowers to nourish and soothe; Super Aqua-Day Comfort Crème, a gentle, daily-use crème that moisturises and protects by providing a supply of essential nutrients as well as SPF12 protection from the sun; and the Happylogy line of products, including Happylogy Night Glowing Overnight Treatment, which works to combat fine lines and wrinkles while you’re sleeping.
Guerlain offer a wide range of products for specific problems, these are found in their complementary collection. For the eyes, Guerlain’s Substantific Eye and Lip Contour Treatment offers improved shape to these sensitive areas, providing lift and definition for those already experiencing serious signs of aging. For those who’ve had a hard night out, Guerlain have crafted Midnight Secret and Midnight Star – two innovative oxegenating formulas that help lessen the obvious signs of fatigue so that your skin can keep up with you all night long and you awake the next morning looking refreshed, regardless of how you feel. Guerlain also offer a selection of leading body care products, such as Body Secret Ice Lift, a product that offers a double-shot of assistance by providing instant lift as well as longer term firming support for problem areas.
In addition to these more ordinary products, Guerlain have a fairly unique range of skin protection formulas, which are grouped together as ‘whitening’ products. Among these are special formulas to cleanse, such as Smoothing Brightening Mask, which can be used twice a week to enhance the clarity of your complexion. There is also the Perfect White C Intense Whitening Essence, which works to prevent errant pigmentation, or age spots. The range also includes a good selection of daily-use products with UV protection up to SPF50, a night crème that works to balance the complexion while you’re sleeping, as well as some innovative spot-fighting peels and treatments for problem areas.
