Jean Paul Gaultier launched his first fragrance, Classique, in 1993 and followed it up with a scent for men, Le Mâle in 1995. The two scents, sold in now iconic, torso-shaped bottles, are highly popular the world over. The Classique and Le Mâle fragrances are sold along side a collection of deodorants, soaps, body and face creams, and aftershaves.
Following on the success of these products, Jean Paul Gaultier launched another fragrance for women, Fragile, in 2000. Then, in 2005, Gaultier released a unisex fragrance, Gaultier2 – the scent has yet to roll out in all markets, for example a US launch is expected in August 2006.
In addition to the fragrances he developed to compliment his clothing, Jean Paul Gaultier has now released a relatively limited collection of beauty products. Gaultier’s makeup line for men includes matte powders, Kohl eye pens, mascaras and even moisturising lip balms and nail fortifiers. As the majority of these products are designed for men, the design is chunky and has a feeling of utilitarian elegance to it.
A couple interesting bits of trivia on Jean Paul Gaultier are that he co-hosted the cult late-night TV show, Eurotrash with Antoine de Caunes from 1993 to 1997 and appeared as a guest star on Absolutely Fabulous in 2001.
Gaultier products are available in a wide range of department stores and chemists throughout Europe and North America, as well as selected stores in other countries around the world. Jean Paul Gaultier beauty products are also available from a number of online shops.
